Former University of Pretoria midfielder Mpho Matsi has named the four best team mates he ever played with and surprisingly ex-team mates like Teko Modise and Mbulelo Mabizela were not amongst them.
The 32-year-old burst onto the scene with Tuks over a decade ago and spent almost seven years with the club. He then joined Mpumalanga Black Aces, where he spent a season before the club was sold and relocated to Cape Town.
Matsi, who is currently searching for a new club, has also featured at Maritzburg United and Stellenbosch during his playing career.
Matsi believes that while he played alongside great players like Teko Modise, Mbulelo Mabizela ,Thabo Nodada and Tendai Ndoro who obviously were exceptional team mates, they were not the best four team mates that he ever played with.
“It’s tough, but if I were to choose, I would go with Lebogang Manyama, Aubrey Ngoma, Mpho Maruping, Siyabonga Shoyisa and obviously myself,” Matsi told Thisisfootball.Africa.
“This is a very difficult question, but those are the best teammates I played with. They were good, and it was very easy to understand them. Those are the guys I could take to a football war and be sure that we would win.”
“We enjoyed football at Tuks with some of these guys. Also, at Black Aces and at my other teams. Some of these guys were not big-name players, but I chose them as my best five including myself, because not only were they very good players, but they were also easy to combine with them and they worked hard for you on the field. They understood what it meant to be a teammate”.
