Goalkeeper, Denis Onyango fears his Mamelodi Sundowns side risks being torn apart by a rampant Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League.
Onyango told the club’s media department on Wednesday before the team departed to Egypt that Percy Tau’s side is always difficult to play against as they are a clever side, who are capable of stifling teams and preventing them from playing their normal game.
The veteran shot-stopper has conceded that it will be difficult for his team to play against the tournament’s ten-time winners, more, especially because they are playing in Cairo. But he is confident that Downs will come out victorious.
“Playing Al Ahly especially away from home, is always a tough encounter right from the airport to the hotel, training ground and stadium because they are one of the power houses of African football,” Onyango said.
“For us, we need to stay focused and try to win if possible because we know when we win it gives us nine points, and it gets us one step closer to the semifinals.”
Rulani Mokwena’s Sundowns are at the summit of the CAF Champions League group B. They have collected six points after winning their first two games, beating Al Hilal and Corton Sports respectively.
The highly anticipated clash that is considered to be an African derby between the Ahly and Sundowns will take place this coming Saturday at the Al Salam stadium.
