Orlando Pirates assistant coach Sergio Almenara says the World Cup break was effective for their club to come up with some new ideas ahead of the second break of the DStv premiership.

Pirates are visiting DStv premiership log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns on Friday afternoon at Loftus Versfeld. The two sides have met twice in competitive football this season, following their two-legged MTN 8 semi-final two months ago. Both teams have met on 46 occasions with Pirates winning only 15 games and Sundowns winning 19 in all competitions.

“The break was useful in order to put on the pitch some new ideas on the training ground. Refresh and renew and also remind the players of some of the ideas we have been working with and so far so good. The players that we have are available for the next game are going to be fully fit,” said Almenara on the club website.

“We are hoping and trusting that we can develop our good performance. Every game that we play against Sundowns is a big game. Everyone knows that. We are preparing for the game as usual, fighting for the three points, it doesn’t matter who is in front. But we know for the people, this is a big game. So, we are going to face the game as to fight until the last minute of the game. We are more than ready.”

Pirates are currently on fifth position on the log table. A victory for the Buccaneers can possibly put Pirates on fourth position depending on the outcome of the Kaizer Chiefs game on Saturday.
