Pirates legend Tso Vilakazi does not feel Orlando Pirates winger Monnapule Saleng is definitely going to be the player of the season. The legend feels that it is much too early to be concluding that Saleng will win the integral prize.
“For me, he is one of the players that are coming up in the sense that there are some moments where he comes to the party and makes things happen. After that you look at him, he is quiet, so for me not the player of the season.
“No, I’m not going to count him as the player of the season. Maybe next season, if he can continue with what he is doing now. He is coming up; he is not yet there. When you look at him, he is not a player that you can really rely on him to carry the team for ninety minutes.
“They (fans) will always love him because he is a player that is shining for the team. He does make things happen in the team so definitely, they will love him, and they will support him and choose him as a player of the season,” he told IdiskiTV.
However, what Monnapule Saleng has done so far cannot be discouraged, the midfielder has scored four goals in the league to date and managed three assists in ten appearances and netted 7 goals in all competitions. He is currently the Pirates leading goal scorer and he sits on a 7.58 percent rating. There is still room to improvement, however, the 24-year-old has been instrumental for the Soweto giants, helping them win significant games. In the ten games he has played, Saleng started nine games out of ten and has bagged 4 players of the match accolades in the process.
