Despite losing the CAF Champions League final to Moroccan side ASFAR Club, former Banyana Banyana captain, Portia Modise has heaped praise on the Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies.
Banyana Ba Style had a chance to defend their title, but unfortunately, they suffered an embarrassing 4-0 thumping at the hands of ASFAR Club at the Stade Moulay Abdellah on Sunday evening in Morocco.
Although Modise was disappointed with the way the game ended, Modise insisted Sundowns were unfortunate to find themselves 4-0 down at the final whistle, and should be credited for how they presented themselves based on the standard of South African Women’s league.
“I have to give credit to Mamelodi Sundowns ladies, playing in back-to-back CAF finals is a big deal, especially looking at the standard of our league here at home,” Modise told ThisIsFootball.Africa.
“Locally we do not have many good facilities for women soccer teams, we don’t have personal sponsors endorsement. Our football is not really exposed the way it supposed to be.
“If Sundowns can hold a team from Morocco, they deserve to be credited, Morocco is a powerful country. If you watched the Banyana Banyana final against Morroco, if we went to extra time, we were not going to win that game because those girls were strong.
“I really give credit to Mamelodi Sundowns management, the way they put such effort to ensure that these girls get the attention and the exposure they deserve and to make sure they look professional, it’s a motivation.”
