Former Orlando Pirates treble-winning defender, Robyn Johannes has praised Miguel Timm and Nkosingiphile Ncgobo, ahead of the Soweto Derby this weekend in the Carling Black Label Cup.
The recently retired hardman feels that the qualities of these two, and a select few others, could play a major role in either team progressing to the final against other semi finalists Mamelodi Sundowns or AmaZulu.
“Besides winning, the atmospheres of derby’s are incredibly special. It’s a huge privilege for players to play in a Soweto Derby, Robyn Johannes told ThisIsFootball.Africa.
“It’s quite funny, to be honest, I haven’t been watching PSL football. I have just been reading here and there, that’s it. But there are so many good players in both teams. On the Orlando Pirates side, I’m so happy people are finally noticing the class of Miguel Timm, he has always been a quality player, so cool, calm and collected. His technical qualities & tactical understanding of the game is just so good. Kermit Erasmus on his day is unplayable too, with huge qualities too.”
Johannes added, that from his experience, that in these games there aren’t always a lot of chances created. It becomes a chess match, whether it’s a league game or whatever. The team that is the most organised, and that takes their chances, have a greater chance of claiming the bragging rights.
“When we look at the opposite side of Soweto, Kaizer Chiefs, we know that Keagan Dolly, Khama Billiat on their day, are unplayable and can change the game. Also, to add to that I have always loved Nkosingiphile Ncgobo, Mshini. Yes, there’s something about his game that’s so easy on the eyes, he is quite young in football terms, but he is a huge talent.”
Mshini as Nkosingiphile Ncgobo is affectionately known, has already made 54 first team appearances at the age of 22, with his best yet to come, as mentioned by his head coach Arthur Zwane. While Miguel Timm has already won his first trophy with Orlando Pirates in the MTN 8, missing the last Soweto Derby highlighted the real influence he has on how they play, due to them losing against Kaizer Chiefs.
