Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has spoken about the importance of midfield maestro Andile Jali despite not getting enough game time lately in Sundowns team.
Andile Jali is on his last six months of contract with Masandawana since he joined the Chloorkop-based team in 2018 from Belgium outfit KV Oostende. With his future still unknown the defensive midfielder is eligible to sign a pre-contract with any team of his choice. However, Rulani Mokwena has highlighted the importance of Jali in Sundowns team.
“AJ [Andile Jali] is important to us. He is very important for the future of this club. He has incredible qualities, and he is very important to have around,” Mokwena told reporters after the 2-0 victory against Orlando Pirates.
“His mentality and insights are valuable and important to me. I use him as third assistant coach, to tell you the truth, because he sits on the bench.
“He gives me a lot of information. He has incredible experience, which is apart from the human qualities which we appreciate and love having him within the club. That’s from a football perspective,” he added.
However, Mokwena didn’t say much about whether the Matatiele-born will born extend his contract with Mamelodi Sundowns instead he mentions that the contractual issues are handled by different department.
“The financial and contractual issues are handled in a different department at the club. I’m sure if there is an update to be given, the club will do.”
The 32-year-old has made ten appearances for Masandawana this season in all competitions. Since Mokwena became a solo head coach Jali has played only ten minutes in DStv Premiership matches.
