Sadio Mane has posted a heartfelt message to his Senegalese teammates after they were knocked out of the FIFA World Cup by the Three Lions.
The former Liverpool winger was unable to feature at the tournament as a result of a fibula injury. Mane has still shown his support for his teammates as they crashed out of the Last 16, after reaching the knockout stages for the first time since 2002. Doing it all without their top scoring Mane.
The Lions of Teranga finished second in their group behind the Netherlands and therefore set up with a knockout clash against England. Despite their efforts, they were unable to overthrow Southgate’s side and went down 3-0 at the Al Bayt Stadium.
Mane took to Instagram and posted a heartfelt message.
“Dear brothers, you have fallen into arms.
“The people are very proud of your journey, and you have put the balm in the hearts of Senegalese and all supporters by defending the national flag with dignity.
“Continue learning and good luck. We will go in search of more Trophies.
Inshallah.”
Mane has scored 34 goals for Senegal so far and nobody knows how the African Cup of Nations champions would have done with Sadio in the mix, but he was certainly a huge miss for them in Qatar.
For England, Jude Bellingham provided the assist for Jordan Henderson’s opening goal of the game, before Phil Foden set up Harry Kane for the second which was heavily engineered by Bellingham in the build-up.
Bukayo Saka scored England’s third of the night as they went on to easily beat Senegal.
