Sekhukhune United head of development coach Thabo Senong has called Pitso Mosimane “an inspiration” after the coach roped in South Africa’s Maahier Davids to be his assistant coach at Al-Ahli Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. According to Senong, Mosimane’s role in coaching in SA is vitally important.
Mosimane is the most successful coach in South African football history, having led Mamelodi Sundowns to five Premiership titles, CAF Champions League and many strong runs in African competition during his eight years as the club’s coach.
Senong claims that the three times CAF Championship winner had a big influence on the likes of Rhulani Mokwena and Manqoba Mngqithi during his days at Chloorkop. Senong believes because Mosimane was happy to share his insights on the game to his assistants and that helped to hone the skills that now continue to make Masandawana the most successful team in the PSL.

The former Lesotho National Team head coach insisted that Mosimane is an inspiration to every upcoming coach in the country, especially based on what he has achieved and by giving others an opportunity to grow.
“We have been inspired by our icon coach Pitso Mosimane who is always excelling outside the borders. Even now he has just recruited one of the most upcoming coaches in SA, Maahier Davids, to be his assistant in Saudi Arabia,” Senong told ThisIsFootball.Africa.
“Coach Pitso Mosimane, besides him being a winner and one of the most professional coaches we have in our continent, he has always had a vision of identifying promising young coaches, and fully developing them. He believes in them so that they can also reach their potential.
“You see the likes of coach Rhulani Mokwena, coach Pitso has made sure that he laid the pathway for him. The likes of coach Manqoba Mngqithi, coach Calvin Johnson, you can see Pitso did the same for them.
Senong has also compared Mosimane’s abilities, when it comes to grooming young coaches, to the world’s best, such as Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola.
“I’m very impressed with the type of coach he is because he reminds me of coach Pep Guardiola, who also took a brave risk of giving somebody like Mike Arteta a chance to be an assistant coach. Now look at what Arteta is doing for Arsenal,” added Senong.
“We want to see a lot of coaching icons like Mosimane who will be brave enough to develop more young coaches, and to give them opportunities so that they grow, and eventually become head coaches themselves.”
