DStv Premiership side, Stellenbosch FC’s central defender Olwethu Makhanya’s interest from Belgium has not ended, despite him having signed a professional contract with Stellies.

His agent, Nimrod Mbhalati confirmed to Thisisfootball.Africa’s Clifton Mabasa in June that Makhanya rise to prominence had attracted interest from K.V.C. Westerlo in Belgium.

“We just received calls from a team in Belgium who are interested in the boy, but there is no official offer so far,” Makhanya’s agent, Nimrod Mbhalati told Mabasa in June.

The 20-year-old central defender signed his first professional contract with Stellenbosch this month. Makhanya, one of the most highly rated young prospects in South Africa, made his pro club debut for Stellenbosch in October in a clash against Kaizer Chief and has already played five matches in the top tier.

Now, Mbhalati insists that despite Makhanya having signed a professional contract with Stellies, Belgium giants K.V.C. Westerlo are still monitoring his client.

“The deal (from K.V.C. Westerlo) is still there. They are monitoring him, hopefully we will hear from them at the end of the season,” Mbhalati told Thisisfootball.Africa.

“But there is no pressure for him now because he is settling in well with Stellenbosch under the coach Steve Barker and the Stellenbosch management who believe in youth.

“He is in good management with Rob Benadie. What a human being, we can see he is basically in good hands at Stellies.”
