Mamelodi Sundowns defender Grant Kekana has opened up about the pain of being booted out of the MTN8 ahead of the Premier Soccer League away clash against Maritzburg United tomorrow.
Orlando Pirates thumped the reigning PSL champions 3-0, in one of their worst defeats in recent years. The Buccanneers will now take on AmaZulu in the MTN 8 final on November 5.
“The result over the weekend was a bit of a hard one to take. We were defending champions of the MTN8, so we would have wanted to progress to the final to defend our title, but it was not to be. We can’t do anything about it. Our focus is now on the league,” said the 29-year-old.
Kekana said they are now looking to put Saturday’s painful loss behind them.
“Our next match is Maritzburg. We will be looking to bounce back and obviously get over the loss we suffered against Orlando Pirates. Hopefully we will get a positive result there,” he said.
Although Sundowns top the log with 22 points from 10 games, and have a cushion of two games in hand, Kekana still expects a tough game against 13th placed Maritzburg.
“Maritzburg are close to the relegation zone, and are obviously looking to get out of it. So it’s going to be another tough encounter. It’s always tough at Maritzburg, but it’s an encounter that we will be prepared for. Obviously, we are still bruised and it’s important that we try to get a positive result,” said Kekana.
