While Mamelodi Sundowns star, Abubeker Nassir still recovering from the nasty strained ankle injury he suffered before the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifyers, he has big plans for his football career in the years to come.
Nasir, 22, had joined Masandawana during the off-season from Ethiopian club Ethiopian Coffee, where he had an impressive season, scoring 29 goals and had been named both the best young and most valuable player in the Ethiopian Premier League last season.
Even though he is currently recovering from injury, Nassir still left a great impression in the few games he played so far. This is clear in his stats having, registered three goals in four appearances in all competitions since he joined Sundowns.
While he emphasized that his focus is entirely on doing the business at Sundowns, the Ethiopian star has revealed his career dreams and a target he set for his club this season.
“I’m always working on improving myself daily but in the next 5 years, if I work hard, and achieve what’s required from my side with the help of the coaching team and the players, I would like to play in Europe,” Nasir said on Sundowns Magazine.
“But right now, my focus is on working hard and delivering results for Sundowns.
This season, I would like to score more than ten goals and provide as many assists as possible. Unfortunately, due to my injury, I haven’t been able to play many games.
“I would like to be remembered as a player who did his best in contributing to the club and as someone who was a positive influence and a good example to the youth.
“Sundowns has many quality players and I must work extra hard to prove myself to be selected in the starting line up.”
