In an interview with the Mamelodi Sundowns magazine, one of the club’s brightest prospects, Cassius Mailula has revealed his Downs favorite player of the past.

Mailula was asked about who the player was he looked up to while growing up, and he singled out Teko Modise, the ex-fan favorite of Masandawana.

“Teko Modise, the first time I saw him on the ball, I knew I wanted to play like him,” revealed the 21-year-old star.

“His footballing brain and his ability to unlock opposing defenses made him a hero to most kids in my age group. I had the privilege to watching his games and he achieved so much with Mamelodi Sundowns, including the first CAF Champions League trophy.

“I think it’s great that he is an ambassador for the club so that young players like myself can learn from him.”

The Masandawana young star has also said he is learning from Modise and arguably the club’s best player, Themba Zwane, since he was promoted to the senior team.

“Themba Zwane is the man. What he does with the ball never ceases to amaze me. As a midfielder, I love his confidence on the ball, and watching him play has improved my understanding of the game. I also appreciate his consistency over the years,” Mailula added.

“I often ask him questions about the game and he always gives me good advice. He is someone I look up to, and it is a privilege to finally play with him.”

The 21-year-old striker has scored nine goals and created one in just ten appearances in all competitions this season.
