Having battled to fill up at their current home in Atteridgeville, better known as the Lucas Moripe Stadium. Matsatsantsa are not going to wait to see the completion of the Caledonian Stadium as they had hoped for. This is the old home of one of the oldest sides in SA, Arcadia Shepherd, that has long been under construction but there have been delays. A club top official confirmed they would relocate to be closer to people of different races and backgrounds in the CBD.
“We are considering our options moving forward, but for now we are at the Lucas Moripe stadium, where our home record is quite good,” SuperSport United CEO, Stan Matthews told ThisIsFootball.Africa.
“We need a smaller stadium for most of our games, we don’t need a 30 000-seater stadium.”
You can sense that there are changes taking place at the team in second position, with Gavin Hunt at the helm, a born winner that will accept nothing less. To be 23 points behind their derby rivals, Mamelodi Sundowns, will not sit well with him.
In addition the constant reports of the club wanting to sell their status, has been rubbished because all the club seeks is investment so that they can keep their best players and reinvest in the team, by bringing in quality that could challenge KaboYellow.
A smaller stadium has the potential to create a better atmosphere and being closer to the Business District helps them to attract a different crowd, or even a bigger one.
