Former Kaizer Chiefs attacker Wedson Nyirenda has hailed the signing of new Amakhosi striker Christian Saile Basomboli, saying that the forward will be a success at Chiefs.

Chiefs officially unveiled Basomboli last Wednesday, a week after he agreed to a three-and-a-half-year deal moving from Zambia Super League side Nchanga Rangers.

With Burundian striker Calab Bimenyimana struggling with form after coming back from injury and the club having offloaded more than three strikers in the past two seasons, the 22-year-old looks set to be Arthur Zwane’s last hope as they try to get back to winning ways.

Nyirenda, who played for the Soweto giants 30 years ago, has high hopes for Chiefs’ Congolese signing and believes he can flourish at Chiefs.

“I have been following Saile (Basomboli) for some time now. He is a forceful striker who always likes breaking opponents’ lines, and that is a quality many strikers lack,” Nyirenda told Thisisfootball.Africa.

“He has a knack for goals and at the same time he knows the time to assist. He has good speed with and without the ball. If he focuses on what he is employed to do at Chiefs, he will be a very good signing for Amakhosi.

“I pray he adapts quickly in terms of language and culture of the club so that he can help the team with his skills.”

Basomboli scored five goals and provided six assists in the topflight at Rangers before moving to Chiefs this season.
