Kaizer Chiefs returned to winning ways on Friday against Maritzburg United, following a lackluster display against 10-man TS Galaxy the prior week. This was a big match for Coach Arthur Zwane, who has come under criticism for Chiefs’ recent displays. With Mamelodi Sundowns cruising towards a 6th straight PSL title, this is realistically the only hope of silverware the AmaKhosi have this season. There were a few noteworthy displays for Chiefs, including Christian Saile, who was instrumental in breaking down Maritzburg United’s stubborn defense.
Christian Saile took his chance as coach Zwane showed faith in the young striker, rewarding his patience with a start. Saile didn’t disappoint, scoring the all-important goal for his side in the 92nd minute. More than just his goal, it was his constant threat with his runs in behind and his persistence in challenging the Maritzburg United defenders that made him stand out. One of the criticisms levelled at Bimenyimana is his predictability at times when coming short to receive the ball or his lack of movement in the box, which makes him easy to mark. Saile, on the other hand, showed terrific pace and endeavour throughout the game, taking defenders to areas they don’t want to go to.
Coach Zwane was full of praise for the young man after his side’s victory, stating: “Christian is a soldier of note, and we expect more from him. He’s got this never-say-die attitude about him, and that’s what we want.” Furthermore, Zwane said, “So, I always remind him that you create your own luck, and you keep on working hard. You’ll always be rewarded, and he was rewarded as he scored.”
The young striker now presents a headache for Coach Zwane because the AmaKhosi fans surely will not accept Bimenyimana starting over him, especially with the Soweto Derby looming.
