Young aspiring Kaizer Chiefs star Samkelo Zwane has found himself in the defensive midfield position at the club after the departure of Njabulo Blom last month. Blom joined South Africa’s Bradley Carnell at St. Louis City SC in the US Major League. Zwane is expected to be a big part in bringing defensive stability to the Chiefs midfield.
In his latest “Kicking With Katsande” column for Thisisfootball.Africa, former Chiefs captain Willard Katsande says the club should sign an experienced defensive midfielder to guide the young Zwane to grow and develop in this “critical position”
“What I can only say is that the defensive midfield position is very critical. I can’t say a lot at this point because the young Zwane is trying to grow in the position and in the industry of football.
“The position is critical and if it is not balanced, it affects the whole team most of the time. It is a boring position but is also the heart of the team, so it needs someone who can play under pressure because it is a very critical and important part of the team.
“I think Chiefs must get someone to help this young aspiring player. Zwane needs someone who can teach him how to play in this difficult position, someone whom he can draw inspiration from.
“If they can get someone, it will be easy for Zwane to grow. He would grow faster because he is needed at the team. If you can look at every team in the world, they win from that position. Look at when Manchester United bought Casimiro, and you can see how he helped United. Now they are becoming better as a team because of him and his influence.
“The young Zwane will grow faster alongside an experienced player. When he does, he will become the key player in the team. He needs to work close to an experienced player because in that position if you make the wrong pass or loose possession of the ball, the whole team is at risk of conceding.
