Former Kaizer Chiefs striker David Zulu has advised Amakhosi coach Arthur Zwane on how Chiefs can get out of forward Ashley Du Preez.
Chiefs completed the signing of Du Preez from Stellenbosch FC before the 2022-23 season started. The Bafana Bafana forward has scored nine goals from 30 appearances for Stellies in the 2021/2022 season, which was enough for Chiefs to show their interest. Unfortunately for Chiefs this term, Du Preez has netted just three goals in 16 matches in all competitions.
Du Preez has been hugely used as a winger after the arrival of Burundian international striker Calab Bimenyimana. Zulu feels Chiefs can benefit from Du Preez if they continue playing him from a wide position, instead of as a false nine.
“Du Preez is fitting perfectly in coach Zwane’s plan. He is quick with his runs, and he can take on players coming from the side,” Zulu told Thisisfootball.Africa.
“I do not see him as a number 9, they should try to use him as a winger because he is more effective when he’s coming from a wide position.
“He can benefit the team if they use him as a winger. The only thing he should fix is his finishing. He needs to materialize those chances and show more composure in front of goal. Everything is well, it’s only about his finishing.
“He is a good signing for Kaizer Chiefs. With all the new players, the only problem so far is decision making. If they can work on that, Chiefs will become effective.”
