Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur “10111” Zwane shares the same sentiment as Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena regarding Downs chances of winning the league title in January.
On Tuesday evening, Swallows coach Ernst Middendorp told the media in a press conference that Sundowns have already won the 2022/23 league after his team lost 2-0 to Sundowns. Middendorp has already lost two matches since he took charge of Swallows.
“Let’s not make jokes about it; it’s a very clear opinion at the end of the season. Sundowns will be 20 points clear of each and team. It’s a reality in terms of the resources, the players they have, and their fitness cohesion,” said Middendorp on Tuesday.
But Mokwena disagreed with Middendorp about the league already having been decided. Mokwena insists it’s too early to say the league is wrapped up and no league has been won in January.
“I’ve got big respect for Coach [Middendorp] and his opinions but it’s too early to say that the league is wrapped up because no league title has ever been won in January and [there’s] so many games to go,” he said.
Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane agreed with Mokwena and stated that there’s a long way to go before the league can be decided whether it is won by Sundowns or not. The Amakhosi head coach has emphasised that there’s 16 matches to be played.
“There is still 16 games to play and I concur with the coach Rulani [Mokwena] who said the league is not won in January,” Zwane told the media during a media briefing that was held in Naturena on Thursday.
Zwane is impressed with the results his players have managed to provide in the last few matches. Kaizer Chiefs have won their last two games which has placed them in fourth position after 14 matches.
“With us, we have to grind out the results as well as at the same time you have to come up with a plan to build the identity.
“So far so good, I’m pleased. To be quite honest, I’m pleased, the players have responded positively even though it’s going to be a long journey.
